The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has donated a cheque for GH¢206,440.00 to the Burns Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, in support of the victims of the June 3 flood and fire explosion.

Dr Albert Paintsil, acting Director of the centre, who received the donation on behalf of the patients, said the gesture would help treat the patients and improve general healthcare at the facility.

Dr Kwesi Nsaful of the Unit confirmed that out of the 16 people brought to the unit, only seven were admitted due to inadequate facilities.

He said such donations had, over the years, helped patients of the unit since the cost of treatments was very high.

Mrs Evangeline Amegashie, Corporate Affairs Manager of SSNIT, said ‘‘we haven’t seen any major donation being brought here, so we decided to come and support’’.
