Solar system customers to receive insurance

A solar system firm, PEG Africa, has said it is working with global micro insurance firm, BIMA, to reward their customers with free insurance cover.

As part of the arrangement, eligible PEG customers will receive free insurance cover to defray their hospital bills as a reward for loyalty and timely repayment for services rendered.

Announcing the partnership in Accra on Friday, the Chief Executive Officer of PEG Africa, Hugh Whalan, asked Ghanaians to harness technology to improve energy generation and reduce poverty.

He said his outfit was assisting low income households, which could not purchase solar products at once, to acquire them on instalment.

Mr.Whalan explained that “while these customers have little ability to purchase a solar home system, the payment plan offered by PEG allows them to purchase it in instalment, building ownership over 12 months.”

He said PEG Africa and BIMA have already conducted a successful pilot project, providing insurance to more that 2000 families.

Mr.Whalan indicated that PEG Africa would roll out a  nationwide programme, and provide vital financial safety net that would create an even more affordable opportunity for Ghanaians to fund their energy needs.

Country manager for BIMA, Russell Haresign, said “we are very proud to work with PEG, creating an innovative spokution that tackles business challenges whilst creating real value for customers”.

PEG leverages on technology to tackle energy poverty  by providing customers a solar home system on a loan basis.
