Shoemaker stabs friend to death

A second hand shoe seller caused a stir here on Wednesday when he allegedly ran amok and stabbed his friend to death, at the Moro Market, in the Tafo Pankrono municipality of Ashanti.

The suspect, Kenneth Opoku, after the dastardly act, handed himself over to the police.

It was not very clear what triggered the act but Police Corporal Prince Dogbatse of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times here, saying the body of the deceased, Justice Appiah, had been deposited at the Tafo Pankrono Government Hospital.

He said Police had stepped up investigation into the incident with Opoku assisting.

Cpl. Dogbatse indicated that the police received a distress call at about 6:30a.m that someone had been stabbed and had been rushed to the Tafo Pankrono Government Hospital.

The police upon the information, proceeded to the hospital only to find out that Appiah had already been pronounced dead upon arrival, he said.

Meanwhile, information available to the Ghanaian Times indicate that, Appiah, who was stabbed in his rib was a regular customer of Opoku.

According to the reports, Appiah and Opoku had an altercation that day but it was not clear as to what triggered the misunderstanding.

Some minutes after the altercation, Opoku was said to have dashed for a kitchen knife and at the blindside of Appiah, stabbed him from behind in his right rib.

He, then, turned himself in to the police and was detained.
