Shippers appeal for ICT training

Mr.  Saeed Moomen, chairman of the Northern Region Shippers’ Committee (NRSC) has appealed to West Blue and the Ghana Shippers’ Authority to consider offering ICT training to shippers to enable them transact businesses online.

He said majority of the shippers in the country were not ICT literates and that if offered with such skills it would enable them to transact businesses online especially with the introduction of the Ghana Single Window (GSW).

According to a GNA report, Mr Moomen made the appeal in Tamale at the weekend during a day’s sensitisation workshop on the GSW jointly organised by the Authority and the West Blue Consulting for traders and transport owners from the Northern, Upper East and the Upper West regions.

The GSW is a portal that provides comprehensive set of online services to the trading community, which is a secured trade platform that facilitates the exchange of information between the government of Ghana and the logistics community.

Mr Moomen said every trader dealing in import and export of goods of any sort needed to be equipped with ICT skills to avoid the situation where middlemen might enter wrong data on the single window platform.

He announced that land had been acquired in the Northern Region to construct offices for the Ghana Shippers’ Authority to enable it transact smooth business in the region.

He commended West Blue for the programme and assured that members would make judicious use of the workshop to improve their business transactions.

Mr Kingsley Kyei Abeyieh, General Manager of West Blue said his outfit would always ensure customer satisfaction by providing suitable solutions and quality services.

He said West Blue had built a reputation for delivering innovative solutions in the field of IT Services globally and that it had also added renewable and sustainable energy and remediation as well as restoration solutions to its services.

Mr Emmanuel Kwarteng, the Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority said the Ghana Single Window was launched in 2002 and had progressively been updated and extended in line with international best practices, which must be embraced by all.

He said the platform reduces the need for data to be entered multiple times and it can be changed and reused electronically, which achieves faster, more accurate results and improves the ease of compliance with government requirements.

West Blue Consulting is a world class business and IT-consulting and technology firm helping to transform the performance of leading organisations in both the private and public sectors.
