The Shai Youth of Ghana commemorated the 40th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) with a health walk in Accra on Sunday.
The event saw thousands of Shai Muslims in black attires with their leaders walk across the principal streets of Accra and ended at the Wembley Park at Kotobabi where the closing ceremony was held.
According to organisers, the event started last year and has seen a massive increase in numbers this year with more youth joining for the walk.
The event would be maintained for subsequent years since apart from commemorating the death of the Muslim leader which occurred centuries ago, it also brings the youth together to exercise and also keep fit.
In his speech, Chief Imam of Shia Muslims in Ghana, Hujatul Islam Shaikh Abubakar Kamal-Deen, advised the youth to maintain good morale standards as the Quran teaches.
“Do not engage in any form of violence, especially during the elections but rather be the leaders as far as preaching peace is concerned,” he stated.
He added that, the youth especially are used by politicians to initiate violence and tension in the country but it is their choice not to get involved.
He also congratulated the organisers for the initiative and asked them to continue with the event as it would help educate the young ones about the religion.
