Twenty-nine suspected criminals including 25 commercial sex workers have been arrested in a swoop carried out by the Madina Divisional Police command last Friday, in Accra.
The suspects between 13 and 32 years were arrested at night clubs.
The exercise sought to flush out criminal activities in the areas such as at Madina market, Nkulenu, and Jamaica in Madina.
Their modus operandi, according to the police is that the sex workers divulge information about their clients to their male accomplices who later attack the innocent victims.
“When the male clients engage the services of the commercial sex workers and take them to their houses, they spy on them and give out information to the suspects who later rob them”, the police stated.
Briefing the media, the Madina Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yakubu Aggrey Nantongma said the swoop started at 11pm to 5: am.
He said some of the suspects also engage in activities such as snatching of phones and robbery.
He said the suspects were currently in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.
The commander said all the suspects would be screened and those found culpable would be put before court.
He advised the public to desist from patronising sex workers and taking them to their homes as well as desist from disclosing vital information to them.
