The Eastern Regional Police Command has intensified security at Koforidua Asokore, in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region, after the weekend’s clash between supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Most of the injured, who were admitted to the St.Joseph Orthopaedic and SDA Hospitals in Koforidua, have been treated and discharged.
The Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah who disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times, said police patrol teams had been deployed in the area to ensure peace and sanity.
He revealed to the Times that the Eastern Regional Commander DCOP Peterkin Yentumi, had met with the Eastern Regional executives of the two political parties who had assured to advice their followers to be law abiding.
ASP Nketia-Yeboah also said that the police would take control of all health walks in the region, revealing that both parties had agreed to rotate days of health walks, to avoid clashes.
The Ghanaian Times yesterday, reported that 10 people sustained injuries during a clash between supporters of the NDC and the NPP at Koforidua Asokore in the New Juaben South Constituency of the Eastern Region.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 9am after the two groups embarked on separate health walks.
