Screwface, Others To Rock National Carnival

Skrew-Faze-2The maiden National Carnival 2013, has been launched in Accra, to help diversify the country’s tourism and cultural products.

The weeklong event, themed, ‘Carnival, Promoting Cultural Diversity and National Cohesion’, will commence on Monday, June 24, with a three-day costume workshop between Accra and Takoradi Polytechnics, and climax with a beach party at the La Pleasure Beach on Sunday, June 30.

It is being organised by the Ghana Centre for Carnival Arts (GCCA) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (MTCCA), the United Kingdom Centre for Carnival Arts (UK-CCA) and the Ghana Society.

Addressing the media in Accra on Friday, Mr. Sam Dodoo, of the GCCA, said the event would, among others, help “highlight Ghana’s culture and identity, build a linkage between the creative industry and other sectors of the economy, and also create employment opportunities for Ghanaians.”
He said as part of the carnival, a float would be held on Saturday, June 29, from the popular Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah, through to the Ako Adjei interchange, the Danquah Circle, Osu Oxford Street and the Black Star Square, all in Accra.

He indicated that a host of music artistes, such as Screwface, Blakk Rasta and Shata Wale, among others, would perform at the beach party.

Mr. Dodoo, therefore, encouraged Ghanaians to “come together to make the carnival a success.” Hiplife artiste Screwface applauded the organizers and supporters of the event “for a job well done. This is indeed going to unite us as artistes and assure everybody of our best performances.” -Spectatorg
