A scrap dealer caught stealing electricity cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has been sentenced to six months hard labour by the Akim-Swedru Circuit Court.
Daniel Oppong was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the crime.
Police Inspector William Arko Nyarko told the court, presided over by Mr. Alexander Oworae, that the incident happened on October 4.
An eye-witness in the case saw Oppong in the act of cutting the overhead power distribution lines to Akim-Aboabo and Adotei with a plier and raised the alarm.
Oppong attempted to escape with about 30 yards of the 16-millimetre cable he had already cut, but was chased and arrested.
He was handed over to the police together with the stolen cables.
