A 21-year-old scrap dealer has been sentenced to six months in prison by a Kumasi district court for stealing a gutter cover metal worth GH¢400.00, belonging to Contracta Engineering Company, the construction firm in charge of the Kejetia Central Market Redevelopment project.

Seidu Aziz pleaded guilty to stealing and prayed the court, presided by Mr. Alfred Asiedu, for forgiveness, but was handed the sentence during his second appearance in court on December 17, 2018.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Nkansah, told the court that, Mohammed Bawa Fatau is an engineer for the company, and the complainant, and Aziz was a scrap dealer with no permanent abode.

The court heard that, on December 10, 2018 at about 4:30am, Aziz sneaked into the construction site and stole the gutter cover metal which was used for the construction work.

According to Insp. Nkansah, after he stole the metal, Aziz who tried to sneak out from the site was spotted by one of the security men on duty who raised alarm for his arrest.

When Aziz realised he has been sighted, he tried to bolt but luck eluded him and he was eventually arrested by the securitymen on duty and handed over to the police at the Central Police Station.
