Scrap Dealer Held For Stealing

The Winneba District Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 27-year-old scrap dealer in prison custody, for stealing eight car batteries from a shop at Winneba Junction.

Kweku Ampomah, who resides at Dwenho, in Agona Swedru, pleaded not guilty and will appear again tomorrow.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Sergeant Peter Agbelie told the court, presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah that, the complainant, Mr. Daniel Kobina Teppreh is an auto electrician residing at Gomoa Aseibu, near Winneba.

He said on October 26, the accused broke into the complainant’s shop at night, stole the batteries and hired a taxi to convey the said batteries to Accra.

He said the taxi driver, after loading them suspected that they might have been stolen, and therefore drove the accused person to the Winneba Police Station where he was arrested.

Police Sgt. Agbelie said the complainant went to the Winneba Police Station and identified the batteries as his.
