School Proprietor Remanded Over SSNIT Contributions

chief justiceThe Sunyani Circuit Court has remanded the owner of Unique Academy Preparatory School, in Berekum in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Sadat Safo Bonsu, into prison custody for failing to pay SSNIT contribution of his workers. He is to appear again on November 21, 2013.

As at April 2013, his outstanding SSNIT debt was GH¢2,044.30 and several warnings to settle the outstanding balance have not been heeded to. 

When the case was called in court on Friday, the accused came to court with GH¢100.00 as part payment but this annoyed the judge and he remanded him.

Meanwhile, the court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Gabriel Benarkuu, Executive Director of Mission of Hope for Society Foundation (MIHOSO), an NGO, and Samuel Yaw Adjei, the proprietor of Morning Star Preparatory School at Penkwase in the Sunyani Municipality, for similar offences.

Mr. Benarkuu’s outstanding debt to SSNIT is GH¢2,183.79, whiles Yaw Adjei owes GH¢258.78.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times, the Sunyani Branch Prosecutor of SSNIT, Christina Amoabeng, cautioned employers to pay their workers’ SSNIT contributions to avoid embarrassment.  From Daniel Dzirasah, Sunyani
