President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cut the sod for work to commence on a state-of-the-art senior high and technical school at Dabaa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya North District.
The project, which is in honour of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, is to promote technical and vocational education.
It is in line with the government’s agenda to equip the youth with hands-on practical skills and training needed to empower them for productive lives.
“Every child must be assisted to bring out the inherent skills in him or her for innovation,” President Akufo-Addo noted, as he addressed a durbar of the chiefs and people of Dabaa, hometown of former President Kufuor.
An educated and skillful youth, he said, was critical to advancing the cause of Ghana’s development.
This is because “every new idea or work requires skills to do.”
President Akufo-Addo, citing the German model of education which places much emphasis on technical and vocational skills acquisition, said that was the way the nation ought to go in order to enhance her human resource development.
Consequently, the government would not relent in mobilising the requisite resources to improve the infrastructural base of technical and vocational schools across the country.
The President described the decision to name the project after the former President as a step in the right direction given his enormous contributions to educational growth in the country.
Former President Kufuor expressed gratitude to the government for the honour done him.
Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, Minister of Education, said the government would continue to take bold decisions to transform educational development in the country.
