Satellites’ technical team gets a boost

Slls tGhana’s participation in the 2015 AYC has been boosted by the inclusion of three of the coaching staff from the AFCON.

Two video analysts – Michael Otchere and Gerard Nus – as well as physical trainer Jamie Lawrence who were on the backroom of the Black Stars team at the AFCON have joined the Satellites team as they prepare in Turkey for the Under-20 championship in Senegal.

The Ghana FA says the decision to beef up coach Sellas Tetteh’s bench is to help ‘raise the bar as far as the level of the Black Stars’ as Ghana aim to win the coveted trophy at the end of the 19th Africa Youth Championship.

Black Stars head coach, Avram Grant will also be at the AYC to provide technical assistance to the team and monitor the new generation, the Ghana FA has explained.

The Black Satellites are three-time winners of the AYC and finished as runners-up at the last edition in 2013.

Ghana are expected to wrap up preparations and leave their Turkey camping base for Senegal on Thursday. They play their opening group game against South Africa on March 9.

*Asamoah Gyan scored in his second game running to hand Al Ain a precious point in their 1-1 draw with Naft Tehran in the Asian Champions League.

The Ghana captain scored from the spot in the 58th minute to cancel Siamak Kooroshi’s opener for the hosts five minutes into the restart.

Gyan appears to be regaining his hot form as he continues to settle in well at his club on his return from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The draw however leaves Zlatko Dalic’s side still searching for their first win of this season’s continental campaign.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s U-20 finalized their preparations for the 2015 African Youth Championship with a 2-1 win over Danish lower division side, Ringkobing IF last Tuesday.

Wa All Stars midfield maestro Kofi Yeboah opened the scoring on four minutes in a match the Black Satellites proved too strong for their opponents.

Sellas Tetteh’s charges squandered a lot of scoring chances to double their lead.

Ringkobing equalized in the second half against the run of play.

With eight minutes left on the clock, substitute Yaw Yeboah came off the bench to score the match winner.

The Black Satellites will leave their camping base in Antalya on Thursday and head to Senegal for the tournament.

Ghana open their campaign against South Africa on 9 March before facing Zambia and Mali.
