The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the SSNIT Pensioners Association, Mr. Theodore Adzei Nee-Okpey, has advised the branches to engage in income generating ventures to support the wellbeing of their members.

He said apart from making profit the ventures would provide opportunity for the retirees to socialise with their peers.

Nee-Okpey gave the advice here during the inauguration of the Sakumono District branch of the association at the weekend.

He urged pensioners to take active part in the activities of the group as a way of dealing with loneliness, saying, “Loneliness kills more than HIV AIDS, so get closer to friends where you can chat and laugh to enhance your health.”

Nee-Okpey enjoined the members to be each other’s keeper and not to get annoyed over issues to the extent that it could raise their blood pressure.

The Sakumono District has 100 members. The executives who would run the affairs of the district for the next four years are Hector Odoi, Chairman, Frank Takyi Mensah, Vice Chairman and Georgina Arthur, Secretary.

The rest are Joe Rockson Asmah, Assistant Secretary and Welfare, Jacob Abbey, Treasurer and Assinor Bossman, Organiser.

The Tema District Chairman of the SSNIT Pensioners Association, Emmanuel Anumah, called on the executives to consult the Tema District if they had any challenges.

He charged them to make the welfare of the members and the formation of vibrant local branches their priority.

Mr. Odoi said the executives would serve the association to the best of their ability.
