Mr Bentil’s body being lowered into the grave

Mourners from all walks of life, including family, well-wishers, friends and loved ones last Friday bade farewell to Robert Bentil, a former Deputy Editor of the Ghanaian Times, as his body was laid to rest at the Gbawe Public Cemetery, Accra, last Accra.

The late Bob Bentil as he was affectionately called died at the age of 71years after a short illness.

Mr Bentil worked with the New Times Corporation (NTC) as a reporter of the Corporation’s flagship newspaper, the Ghanaian Times and later on its weekly paper, the Spectator where he rose through the ranks from a reporter to become a Deputy Editor of the Ghanaian Times.

He retired in 2007 after 44 years contributing his quota to the nation and making impactful contribution to the field of journalism where he pursued excellence.

A tribute by his widow, Madam Rose Tabi described her late husband as caring and one who had love for family and humanity.

Not forgetting his sense of humour, Madam Tabi said Bob even on his sick bed in the United States of America where he had gone to visit some of his children always called back home to find out about the church and if the daughter had paid his tithe as one of  the pillars of Christianity.

The Christ the King Anglican Church, Mallam-Gbawe where he worshiped said Mr Bentil was a devoted and dedicated servant of God who spent most of his life serving His maker.

The church described how happy it was to have Robert as a member.

Similar tributes also poured in from his children, grand children and the McCarthy Hill branch of the Love Community Chapel International.

Reverend Sylvia Appiah who preached the burial sermon, urged Christians to lead a fulfilled life that would glorify God and prepare them to enter the heaven kingdom when called to be with the maker.

Life, she said was valueless with Christ irrespective of all the earthly things they may possess on earth.
