Robbers Brutalise Travellers On Kumasi Road

Five suspected armed robbers in the early hours of yesterday, attacked traders on two buses at Ahwerewa in the Amansie District of Ashanti, and made away with their monies.

The robbers were said to have subjected the traders, numbering about 45, to severe beatings and collected a total of GH¢5,300 and 20 mobile phones from them.

They then fled into a nearby bush.

Eye-witnesses said the robbers, wielding AK-47 assault rifles and two locally-made pistols, attacked the traders on board two mercedez benz buses travelling from Ahwerewa to Kumasi.

It was a pathetic situation as the traders, mostly women, wept, amidst appeals to the robbers to spare them their lives.

Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Albert Quansah, the Nkawie District Police Commander, who confirmed the incident, said it occurred between Esaase–Bontifufuo on the Ahwerewa road towards Nkawie.

He said police is intensifying their efforts to arrest the robbers.
