A suspected robber who escaped from police custody has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Sunyani Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Joan Eyiking,
Kwaku Yeboah had been sent for medical treatment at the Sunyani Regional Hospital in handcuffs and under 24-hour police guard, but managed to flee.
He was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the convict was also to stand trial for robbery.
Yeboah, he said went into hiding at Kwatire in the Sunyani West District, from where he was re-arrested based upon a tip-off.
He was first arrested on May 2, at about 7.30 pm when he, together with one other person on the run, attacked and robbed a trader in her shop at gun-point at Ohene Djan, a suburb of Abesim, near Sunyani.
