Robber goes in for 10 years

A member of a robbery gang that attacked and robbed 10 people of their cash, mobile phones and other valuables at Asafo and Asawasi in Kumasi, has been sentenced to 10 years imprison-ment.

A Kumasi Circuit Court said Mohammed Musah together with four others on the run, committed the offence on October 28.

Musah, who was charged with conspiracy and robbery, pleaded not guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour -Kyei told the court, presided over by Mrs Afia Adu Amankwaa that the convict and his fugitive colleagues — Awudu Maiz, Rashid, Issaka Macho and Borbor,  armed with locally manufactured pistols and machetes struck at about 9:30 p.m.

They robbed their victims, including drivers, drinking bar operators, traders and hairdressers and beat some of them up mercilessly.

The prosecution said, about a week after the attack, the Akwatialine Neighbourhood Watch Committee managed to arrest Musah and handed him over to the Zongo Police.

At the police station, three of the stolen phones were retrieved from him, during a body search.

Musah confessed forcibly taking them away from their owners. —
