Quran Memorisation Begins

Shiekh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharabutu, Chief Imam (1)SAUTUL Islam Foundation (SIF), an Islamic charitable organisation, at the weekend inaugurated the first annual Quran memorisation competition in Ghana, in Accra at the weekend.

The four-week competition, which is on the theme: “Promoting Islam through demystification of the Holy Quran”, was aimed at encouraging Muslim children to read, memorise and understand the Quran.

The competition would be telecast every Friday on Ghana Television (GTV), during this year’s Ramadan.

Mr. Prince Moses Zakaria, the secretary of the foundation, said the competition would be organised in the northern, middle and southern parts of the country.

According to him, the northern zone was made up of Northern, Upper East and West Regions, the middle zone include Ashanti, Central, Brong-Ahafo and Western regions, and the southern zone is made up of Greater Accra, Volta and Eastern Regions.

Sheikh Usman Ibrahim Baari, chairman of the organising committee of the competition, urged Muslims to abide by the teaching of the Quran.

Dr. Alhassan Yakubu, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, who witnessed the launch, reminded Muslims that their religion stands for peace and should therefore, live in harmony with their neighbours.  By Christabel Akoto-Manu
