The Queen of Belgium, Queen Mathilde arrived in Accra yesterday to begin a three-day official visit to Ghana.

She is expected to pay a courtesy call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Presidency tomorrow (Friday) as part of the visit for bilateral talks.

Afterwards, the two will visit the University of Ghana for a public lecture on the topic ‘The Sustainable Development Goals- A transformative agenda for the future that we want.”

President Nana Akufo-Addo  and  the Prime Minister of Sweden, Erna Solberg  co-Chair a group of 16 Eminent Personalities, tasked by the Secretary General of the United Nations, to generate momentum and commitment from the global community for the achievement of the  Sustainable Development Goals Global Agenda 2030.

The SDGs is the successor of the Millennium Development Goals and it seeks to end poverty in all forms, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Queen Mathilde is expected to deliver the keynote address while President Akufo-Addo delivers a special remark at the function.

This morning, the Queen is expected to hold a breakfast meeting with the business community and members of the Civil Society Platform and, later, visit the Osu Presec Senior High School and inspect an ICT lab installed by the Belgium Company, Televic.

She will later visit the Makola Market and hold meetings with the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia, and the Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Otiko Djaba.
