Ghanaian featherweight challenger, Emmanuel Quartey, has dared the WBO Africa super bantamweight champion, Wasiru Mohammed to accept his challenge for a showdown.

According to Quartey, aka Akufo Addo, who fights in the featherweight division currently, the champion was avoiding the best boxers in the division with the help of his management, adding that, the only way to prove he is the best is to fight him.

Mohammed, known as ‘Gyatabi’ (Cub) defeated Isaac Sackey to rise to the WBO Africa throne in a controversial and tempestuous fight that resulted in crowd misbehavior, leading to the suspension of the former champion’s seconds.

Sackey’s corner has, however, remain silent on calls for a rematch after the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) announced the verdict about a month after the fight.

That has created a vacuum for many challengers to launch attacks at the new champion, insisting that the ‘Gyatabi’ was running away from the many challengers.

In a post fight chat on the eve of Christmas when he defeated Samuel Akrogo in their featherweight contest on the Cabic Fight Night II event, Quartey did not hide the desire to face Wasiru Mohammed.

“I feel very bad when I hear people say Gyatabi will reign for a long time in the division. I have been chasing him for a showdown even before he won the title. If he is the best, then he has no reason to run away from me, whether at super bantamweight or featherweight.”

“Those that follow boxing well in the country know Akufo Addo very well. When I called for a fight with Isaac Dogboe, they didn’t give me the chance. I always call for the big fights but the so called best boxers always run away from me.”

Quartey said he was ready to face Gyatabi anytime and anywhere and would not rest on his oars until that fight comes to past.

“They say so many things about him (Gyatabi) which I don’t see. That boy is not as deadly as they think. They should give me the chance and they will see the real Emmanuel Quartey.”
