Residents of Akumsa Dumasi, near Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region, were thrown into a state of shock when a 13-year-old Primary Five pupil was found hanging on a tree in front of his family house.
James Agyei Binney, was alleged to have committed the act after refusing to accompany his parents to the farm.
A large crowd of community members had gathered at the scene at the time The Ghanaian Times got there.
His father, Kwaku Addo, told The Ghanaian Times that he asked the deceased, currently on vacation to assist him on the farm but he refused and he (father) left leaving him behind.
He said whilst on the farm, he received a call that his son had committed suicide by hanging on a tree at their family house.
An eye-witness account had it that, the deceased was found hanging and the alarm was raised for assistance.
The deceased’s mother said she could not understand why the son hanged himself because they had been leaving peacefully in the house until the unsuspected incident.
DSP Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza District Police Commander when contacted, confirmed the story and said the body had been deposited at the St. Theresa’s Hospital mortuary at Nkoranza for autopsy.
