Provide assistance to execution of projects in c’nities – Residents urged

The Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem in the Western Region, Gilbert Asmah, has advised residents to support and assist during initiation and construction of projects to ensure transparency, probity and accountability.

“Let us take interest in projects initiated by the assemblies, so as to own them and avoid the situation where we will impugn corruption and lack of transparency, probity and accountability in such projects without proof,” he stressed.

Mr Asmah gave the advice at a joint ground breaking ceremony to commerce work on eight projects with Mireku Duker, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, marked in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.

 The projects have been funded by the Mineral Development Fund (MDF), District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF), District Development Fund (DDF) and the Internally Generated Fund (IGF), which included the construction of six-unit classroom block, community center, completion of three-unit classroom block with office, store, staff common room, six-seater water and sanitation facility, rehabilitation of 40 non- functional boreholes and setting up water treatment plants throughout the municipality.

The rest are construction of three-unit classroom block, office, store, staff common room and computer laboratory, mechanised boreholes, construction of concrete overhead tank and a 16-seater aqua privy water and sanitation facility, are expected to be completed between five and eight months.

Beneficiary communities include Domeabra, Essamang Kakraba, Amantin, Nyanso, Kyekyewere, Dadwen, Dompim and Teberebie.

Addressing the communities at separate ceremonies, Mr Asmah admonished the beneficiaries to own the projects and provide their assistance and support to the execution of all the contracts to desist from misconception that the projects were fraught with corruption, lack of transparency, probity, transparency and shoddy deals.

He assured that the assembly would execute similar projects in other electoral areas in the municipality to improve livelihoods, create jobs, wealth and attract investment to the municipality.

Mr Duker called on the contractors to hand over the projects within the stipulated period to avoid any misconceptions about contractual issues and perceived shoddy work.

He appealed to constituents to exercise restraint, maintain peace and coexist towards accelerated development for other communities to emulate.

Nana Abena Kunadjoa II, queen mother of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, commended the assembly and pleaded with them to ensure that they assisted the other electoral areas as soon as possible. –GNA
