‘Promote Brand Or Risk Folding Up’

Serame Taukobong PixCorporate organisations should take advantage of new social media platforms to promote their brands so they do not risk folding up, Serame Taukobong, Chief Executive Officer of MTN, has said.

He said failure for businesses to embrace the new social media, they risk losing out in the current trendy business environment.

Mr Taukobong said these at a lecture organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) in Accra under the theme, “Consumer Power and the Digital Age.’’

The lecture, attended by members from the business community and some marketers, it was the second in the series to be organised by the CIMG this year.

He said social media had made it possible for businesses to reach millions of customers across the world within a short time.

Mr. Taukobong said power was shifting from companies to consumers because of the advent of the internet and social media, and because consumers now had unlimited choices due to the availability of information.

For instance, he said consumers could easily access information on a product, make due diligence on it, before making a decision to buy it.

Mr Taukobong, therefore, entreated companies to be transparent with their customers and not withhold information from them, to encourage them to build brand loyalty for their product.

The National Vice President of CIMG, Kojo Marfo in his remarks, said the lecture was meant to create a platform to discuss important national topics, adding that the programme was also used to celebrate organisations which were performing well.

Mr Marfo said customers/consumers were becoming sophisticated and called on companies to continue to develop innovative products to meet the changing needs of their clients. By Kingsley Asare
