The former president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Professor Alex Dodoo, who was billed to appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament yesterday, could not make it because he was out of the country.
Instead, his lawyer, Yonny Kulende, was in the House to apologise to the committee about the absence of his client, who had travelled outside the country.
Professor Dodoo, has been summoned by the leadership of Parliament to appear before the committee for his unsavoury remarks about the members of Parliament and the House in general.
He was alleged to have denigrated the House in the media, describing the members as “ignorant” for raising concerns over the Ebola vaccine trial intended to be undertaken in the Volta Region.
When the committee convened yesterday, Mr. Kulende appeared before it to explain that his client who was outside the country, would return on Saturday, July 4 and that he was ready to appear before it at a re-scheduled date.
Speaking to The Ghanaian Times after a brief meeting between the lawyer and the members, Nana Amoakoh a deputy Ranking Member of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East, said the committee would reconvene on Tuesday to determine a new date for Prof. Dodoo.
He said for his lawyer to inform the committee of his absence from the country, it showed enough respect to warrant the re-scheduling of the date.
Nana Amoakoh said the new date would also be communicated to Prof. Dodoo.
