Private security man jailed 10 years for robbery

arrestThe Accra Circuit Court “One” has jailed a private security man 10 years in hard labour for robbing a trader.

Andrews Nii Noi Nortey, a resident of Ofankor near Achimota in the Greater Accra Region forcibly collected the handbag of Madam Rebecca Mensah containing Gh¢2,200.00, an Alcatel mobile phone valued at GH¢300.00 and other personal effects at about 1am on April 29, 2017, and ran away.

Luck eluded him when the victim raised an alarm and the convict was chased and arrested by some people including policemen.

Andrews Nortey pleaded not guilty but the court presided by Mr Aboagye Tondoh, found him guilty after a full trial and sentenced him to 10 years in prison in hard labour.

Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, prosecuting, said that the complainant was walking through the Mamprobi Police Barracks to Padis Pub also at Mamprobi at about 1am when the convict who walked closed to her, pulled a knife and threatened to stab her should she refuse to give him her handbag.

He said that Nortey was searched at the charge office after his arrest and an amount of GH¢530.00 was retrieved from him which he admitted taking from the victim’s hand bag he snatched.

Nortey further told the police that some of the money fell when he was running away with his booty.
