Madam Mary Boatemaa Marfo, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere East, has observed that there is the need for the assemblies to prioritise the construction, rehabilitation and improvement of projects to open up communities for accelerated development.
That, she noted, would help to open up rural communities and promote sustained agricultural production to boost food security and the local economy.

Madam Marfo made the call at Ahensan, after touring and inspecting ongoing rehabilitation, improvement and construction works in communities in the district.

“The deplorable road networks in rural communities have over the years been the cause of post-harvest losses and poor market for farm produce resulting in low incomes for farmers and increased poverty among people in rural communities.

“It is important for district assemblies to prioritise feeder road improvement to aid the transportation of food, other farm produce from the farming communities to market centres and infrastructure projects which include a 13.5km Asokore-Ahensan-Naaman road and the Ahensan-Senchi, road which passes through Attakrom and Okaikrom communities.

“Others are the 27km Effiduase-Ntumkumso-Tetekaaso road and the five km principal streets rehabilitation in Effiduase town and the road projects which commenced in September this year are expected to be completed early next year.
“The reconstruction of roads is part of the assemblies and the government’s commitment to improve living conditions in rural communities and bridge the socio-economic gabs in those areas.

“It is also aimed at improving the livelihoods and incomes of farmers, reduce poverty, enhance food security and achieve the targets and goals of the Planting for Food and Jobs and Planting for Exports and Rural Development programmes of the government,” Madam Marfo stressed.
Sampson Awuah, the District Engineer, urged the communities and road users to cooperate with contractors to ensure successful execution of the projects so as to open up communities and attract investment to ameliorate their plight. -GNA
