PRESIDENT John Mahama has donated food items to the office of the Western Regional Chief Imam, for distribution to Muslims, fasting and praying during the EId-Ul Fitr.

The Regional Minister, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, who presented 100 bags each of rice and sugar, on behalf of President John Mahama, at Sekondi, asked the Muslim authorities to ensure fair distribution of the food items.

Mr. Aidoo said some Muslims in Tarkwa, Bogoso, Prestea and Asankragua areas, all in the region had complained of unfair distribution of donations in support of the Eid-Ul Fitr.

He said part of the donation would go to the office of the Regional Chief Imam, and the rest would be distributed to Muslims at Agona Nkwanta, Shama and Tarkwa, according to a list of beneficiaries prepared by the regional secretariat.

Mr. Aidoo promised Muslims from other parts of the region who did not receive some of the donation, “When we get more items, we will ensure that we cover the areas beyond Bogoso and Prestea, so that everyone will feel the President’s gesture”.

He said the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly had also donated food items, which would be distributed to Muslims by the office of the Regional Chief Imam.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Muslim community, the Western Regional President of the Ahmadiyya Mission, Mr. Elias Yusuf Kofi Gyampson, thanked the President for supporting the Eid-Ul Fitr.

Mr. Gyampson prayed for peace and tranquility in the country, noting that “without peace, we cannot observe this festival of fasting and prayers”.

He also sought Allah’s blessing for President Mahama, and the ministers of state as they provide leadership for the country.
