President Akufo-Addo awards 30 BECE graduates

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday presented awards to students who excelled in the 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The 30 BECE graduates who are from all the 10 regions of Ghana, each received a plaque, gold medal, Samsung tablet, certificates, cash price of Gh¢1,000 among prices from sponsors.

This year’s award which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre forms part of the President’s Independence Day Awards which was marked as part of the 61st Independence Day celebration.

The awards  was instituted in 1993 to award scholarship to deserving BECE candidates.


The Minister of Education Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh said the awards ceremony was held to encourage the winners to continue to study hard to become responsible citizens.

He said the government was determined to ensure that every child in Ghana was educated at least to the senior secondary level.


The Education Minister said it was for that reason that the government introduced the free senior high school

policy so that all children will be educated.

The President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Osei-Opare, ministers of state, chiefs and students were present at the ceremony.
