The President of the Presbyterian University College (PUC), Reverend Professor Emmanuel Adow Obeng has asked the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) to increase its support to the university in the quest for it to become one of the best tertiary institutions in the country.
Increased support in the form of investment and resources, he said, would enable the university to expand and introduce more innovative programmes to effectively train students.
The PUC is currently the third best private university and the 10th best in the ranking of both private and public universities in the country.
Prof. Adow Obeng solicited PCG’s support for the PUC when he delivered a message at a meeting of the Church at Abetifi Kwahu.
According to him, the PUC which was established in 2003 to provide quality tertiary education needed the continuous assistance and cooperation, from the Church to stand on its feet just like the University of Ghana continues to enjoy government support although is a well endowed university.
“In fact, our topmost prayer at PUC is that the university becomes the topmost agenda of the Presbyterian Church in the allocation of resources and the major item of discussion at the General Assembly deliberations,” he stated.
Prof. Adow Obeng who gave a report on the university’s academic programmes, also highlighted some of the significant contributions of the university to society, such as an outreach breast cancer programme it conducted in conjunction with the Breast Care International, Ghana Glaucoma Society and the Atibie Government Hospital which benefited over 1,000 patients in its catchment areas.
“We, therefore, appeal to the out-going moderator to ensure that an endowment fund would be put in place as well as land for the university’s Accra campus before the expiration of his term of office in November 30, 2016”.
Prof. Adow Obeng who also appealed to the government for the allocation of a bus for the university, expressed gratitude to the out-going moderator for his support for the PUC.
