President John Dramani Mahama has begun his campaign tour of the Northern Region, with a call on the people of the East Gonja District to retain the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in power in the December general elections.
He stated that the NDC government has brought a lot of development to the constituency and that more projects would be executed in the area should they retain him in power.
President Mahama, who addressed hundreds of NDC supporters and sympathizers at a rally in Salaga market, assured them that work on the main road from Tamale to Salaga would be completed soon.
He said the road when completed would help boost economic activities of the people as businessmen would move their goods with ease and comfort.
President Mahama also indicated the government’s resolve to improve water supply to the Salaga township, stressing that plans were far advanced to build water treatment plant in the area.
He explained that the Community Water and Sanitation (CWSA) was already liaising with the assembly and other stakeholders to ensure that Salaga and its environs received water.
President Mahama said that some opposition parties were going about making promises about projects and policies that had long been implemented by the government.
He added that the opposition NPP party had nothing good to offer the people of the country and the party has entangled itself in confusion.
President Mahama paid a courtesy called on the newly installed Kpembe Wura Kanbanyo Mismark Haruna at his palace.
The president entreated the new paramount chief of the Kpembe traditional area to work hard to maintain peace and unity in the area.
President Mahama explained that peace was a pre-requisite for development, and pledged to work hand in hand with the new chief to propel development in the traditional area.
The president and his team interacted with students of the Salaga Health Training Schools and inspected progress work on the Salaga government hospital, stressing that efforts were being made to complete the project on schedule.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Inusah Abdulai Fuseini, Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Abubakari Abdulla, Northern Region Minister and other deputy ministers accompanied the president on his campaign tour of the East Gonja District.
