The Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, has on behalf of the President, presented assorted items to inmates of the Schoonhoven Cured Lepers Village, in Ho.
The donation from President John Mahama is meant to provide relief to the inmates.
The items included 20 bags of rice, 10 gallons of red oil, two bags of beans, four bags of maize, four cartons of fish and two gallons of cooking oil.
The camp currently has 120 cured lepers who are fed once a day, on GH¢24 for a month.
Mrs. Attivor said the gesture was a practical demonstration of the President’s feeling for the under privileged.
She said the government would continue to provide skills training and the necessary working equipment to enable the inmates to engage in profitable businesses to better their lives.
Madam Rose Akori, a member of the Home, who received the items on behalf of the inmates, expressed gratitude to the President for the support.
She said for over a month now, they had been facing food shortage and, therefore, appealed for more support from individuals and organisations.
