Pres. joins in K’si clean-up

President Mahama is joined by residents of Kumasi in cleaning the city at the national sanitation dayPresident John Dramani Mahama at the weekend, joined the people of Kumasi to undertake the second edition of the national clean up exercise.

The exercise, initiated by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, and implemented by all metropolises, municipalities and districts, is to be carried out on the first Saturday of every month, by all residents to clear piled up refuse and filth that have engulfed most communities.

The President participated in the six-hour exercise, together with the city authorities, security personnel and the general public.

Addressing the gathering afterwards, he emphasised the need for all to keep the environment clean, to reduce the breeding of mosquitoes, and to help prevent the outbreak of cholera and other filth-related diseases.

Mr. Kojo Bonsu, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, commended the President for joining the people to undertake the exercise, saying, “It’s an indication of how the President attaches the welfare of the people of Ashanti at heart”.

He said keeping the environment clean was a shared responsibility of every individual, and therefore, called for greater participation in subsequent clean-ups.
