Preparation on course for 2nd WISA Achievers Awards

hdrThe Executive Director of Women In Sports Association (WISA), Madam Gloria Commodore, says preparations are far advanced for the second edition of its Achievers Awards on September 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

She told the Times Sports over the weekend that almost everything needed had been put in place and was waiting patiently for the day set for the event.

Several awards will be given to women who have excelled in diverse fields in Ghana’s sports sector.

They include Victoria Dowuona, tennis coach; Samira Sulemana, football/charity; Philippina Frempong, administration; Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo, football coach; Shukura Keep Fit Club, Keep Fit; Veronica Commey, media; Memunatu Sulema, football goalkeeper; Catherine Morton, promoter/education and Gloria Peprah, media.

Others are Cylia Baah Danso, table tennis; Hor Halute, athletics; Rosemary Ametepe, boxing referee; Irene Yaboi, hockey; Madam Alice Attipoe, administration; Black Queens, football team and Gladys Patterson, sports supporter.

The rest are Amy Fynn -Thompson, media; Helena Williams, administration; Mary Enno, badminton; Akosua Nkansah, badminton (para); Ali Ayishatu Zakaria, media; Priscilla Adubea, football; Kaya Forson, swimming; Rafatu Inusah, rugby; Nadia Darley Sackitey, taekwondo and Cynthia Lamprey, handball.

This year’s edition of the awards dubbed ‘Achievers Awards 2018’ will have cosmetics giants, Ghandour as the headline sponsors.

Madam Commodore said sports promotes a healthy living and is creating opportunities for everyone especially women hence, the need to encourage more participation and involvement from women.

She said the awards will be preceded by a health walk scheduled to start at 6:30 am from the Accra Sports Stadium and move through the Danquah Circle, Osu Oxford Street and back to the stadium for an aerobics session.

Side attraction will be demonstrations of netball and taekwondo formation.
