Three members of a gang of drug peddlers were arrested in a swoop by the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command on Friday.

The operation, led by Chief Superintendent Fleance Adikah, the Divisional Commander, took place at ‘Spider Toilet’ a popular narcotic drug-peddling ghetto in Ashaiman, near the Flats.

One of the suspects, a 23-year-old man, George Agyepong, alias Shaka, had 53 wrappers of whitish substances suspected to be cocaine concealed in black polythene and hidden in his boxer shots.

Confirming the incident to The Ghanaian Times, The Ashaiman District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Seth Tay, said Agyepong had been selling cocaine for the past seven months for his master, popularly known as “Hollywood”.

He said Agyepong told the police he makes about GH¢250 monthly from the sale of cocaine.

DSP Tay said the other two suspects , Mohammed Awal, 18, and a 32-year-old labourer, who was yet to be identified, were apprentice mechanics.

He disclosed that a search at the scene revealed 37 wrappers and broken pieces of compressed dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, and a pair of scissors.

DSP Tay said the swoop was part of efforts by the divisional command to rid the Ashaiman metropolis of ghettos which host criminals, who engage in various unlawful activities.

He emphasised that the Police has declared war on criminals and ghettos, adding that the operation would continue “until all the criminals run away from the area”.
