The Police Experimental Basic School in Sunyani last Wednesday, emerged winner of the inter-basic school spelling competition in the Sunyani municipality.
The school, represented by Master Ebenezer Tweneboah, a class three pupil, beat Ruth Tamea Asante of Sacred Heart Basic School, to win the finals.
Fifty contenders from 12 schools drawn from the municipality participated in the competition which was organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with USAID, under its Ghana Partnership for Education.
It was part of a nationwide reading festival project being undertaken by the partnership across the country with the aim of supporting and improving the culture of reading among children.
As part of the event, assorted reading books and educational materials were presented to the schools.
Kwadwo Osei Assibey, Brong- Ahafo Regional Director of Education, opening the event earlier, lauded the objective of the festival, and urged parents to invest and encourage their children to read since that was vital to build the foundation of their education.
