Police personnel have advised to conduct appropriate investigations into all cases to ensure that justice is served.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Osei Kwaku Ampofo Duku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, also told them to be impartial in their duties and avoid protracting disputes.
Addressing a two-day workshop for 30 new police officers posted to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) from across the country, ACP Duku, said some officers’ there was the need for more training or capacity building for officers to improve on their performance.
The workshop is to provide the new personnel with the necessary information in dealing with domestic issues.
ACP Duku said ignorance of the law had affected the effective and efficient handling of domestic cases in the country.
Chief Superintendent Lau-rencia Wilhelmina Akorli, the Deputy National Co-ordinator of DOVVSU, said deliberations at the workshop would focus on strategies that would help promote peace in the domestic setting.
She urged the officers to be sensitive to the needs of complainants and victims in their line of duty.
