The Police officer identified as detective Sergeant Francis Essuman, 42, stationed at the Achimota School Police Station, together with his nephew, Jepthah Asmah, 20, and his daughter Wilhelmina Essuman , were accompanying his pregnant wife, Aba Essuman, 36, to the hospital to deliver when the accident occurred.
The Operations Officer of the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sulley Sullemana confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
He said on reaching the South Liberia Traffic Lights at Adabraka the taxi cab run into the right side of a Sprinter bus with registration number GT 6283-13 heading towards Tudu in Accra.
He said the pregnant woman delivered a bouncing baby boy in the taxi after the impact of the accident.
ASP Sullemana said the four were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
According to him, the new born baby miraculously survived the accident whiles the driver, Maxwell Kweku Yeboah, 29, who was admitted at the Ridge Hospital for various degrees of injuries has since been treated and discharged.
ASP Sullemana said the bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy while the case is still under investigations.
He urged drivers to avoid from over speeding when they were approaching traffic lights.
