Police Offers GH¢8,000 Reward For The Arrest Of 4

DCOP-Kofi-BoakyeThe Ashanti Regional Police Command has offered an  GH¢8,000 reward for anyone who would volunteer information leading to the arrest of four people in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man at Ash Town, in Kumasi, on Saturday.

Kwame Antwi, said to be a securityman at C. Woerman Company Limited at Atonsu, was shot at the back of his head when a five-member gang attacked him and his colleagues at Buabasa’s residence at Ash Town.

Four hardened suspects have been identified in connection with the murder, and according to the command GH¢2,000 is placed on each of the suspects.

They are named as Nana Yaw, also known as West and Terrible, Dragno, Bonty Killer, also known as Wunda and Hyundai Guy and Kwame Sasraku, a goldsmith’s apprentice.

At a press briefing here yesterday, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye said that anyone with information about the suspects should inform the police.

He ruled out any ‘’gangsterism” in the incident and said it was a murder, stressing that the killer had been identified as Bonty Killer.

Giving some background information, DCOP Boakye said the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. and the deceased, in the company of his friends, Richard Owusu, Richard Wiafe, Patrick Sarpong and Kofi Kwarteng had gone to a ‘pito’ bar at Ash Town.

Just after they left the ‘pito’ bar, they were approached by two young men from a drinking spot called Sweet Mother and they attacked the deceased and his friends.

DCOP Boakye claimed the assailants physically assaulted the deceased and his friends and in the process, Bonty pulled a gun and shot Antwi at close range.

Investigations into the case, he said, revealed that the suspects used a KIA Pride to commit the act.

Bonty Killer, he said was believed to be hiding in Accra.

Earlier, eyewitnesses said Antwi, did not die on the spot but on arrival at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Ms. Comfort Aninka, the assembly woman for Manhyia, who was an eyewitness, claimed that when the taxi pulled up, the five gangsters came out and one of them pushed the deceased, saying ‘’this is the guy that ridiculed me”.

She claimed the deceased also responded by pushing him, and as he walked past him, he (gangster), pulled the gun and shot him at close range at the back of his head and the bullet came out of his forehead”.

The gangsters quickly jumped into the taxi and sped off, and the three colleagues rushed him to the hospital but he died on arrival, she said.

Fear has gripped the residents of Ashanti New Town as a result of the incident following the emergence of a new group of youth who are said to be armed with knives and pistols, and have been harassing innocent citizens.

Some residents claimed that a similar incident occurred barely four months ago, when a young man was killed in cold blood and the suspects have since not been arrested.
