Police launch manhunt for fraudster

The Police has mounted a search to arrest a woman who allegedly duped a businessman of GH¢40,000 at Nyamekye in Accra.

Esi Dacosta and two other accomplices are being sought for by the police for taking the money from their victim under the pretext of selling him a car.

The Deputy Accra Regional Police Command, Public Relations Officer, Inspector Kwabena Danso told the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday that on August 13, the complainant (name withheld) saw on Tonaton website an unregistered Camry Sports car displayed for sale with contact of  024-3447298 written on it.

Inspector Danso said the victim called the number and respondent asked the victim who is based in Kumasi, Achimota to come to Accra for the transaction.

He said the following day the businessman proceeded to Accra and called him but told him he cannot meet him but was sending his brother to meet him, adding that the said brother met the victim at Achimota and took him to Santa Maria, where the car was parked.

Inspector Danso said the victim expressed interest in the car which was pegged at GH¢40,000. He said the seller later directed the victim in the company of his brother to pay the money to his wife at Nyamekye and collect the document.

He said the brother took him to the said wife who happens to be Esi Dacosta who received the money from the victim and gave the documents to him.

Inspector Danso said on their return to Santa Maria for the car, the said brother bolted adding that the victim rushed to Santa Maria where the car was parked but found that it had been taken away.

 

He said the victim again returned to the house he paid the money but found that Esi has vanished.

He appealed to the public to provide information to the police for her arrest.
