The Accra Regional Police Command yesterday intercepted AK47 raffle with nine rounds of ammunition which were abandoned by two men at Abossey Okai near Kaneshie.

The two men bolted when the police patrol team suspected them of possessing offensive weapons.

The Public Relations Officer of the Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Efia Tenge, told the Ghanaian Times members of the patrol team saw the men at Abossey Okai Round About when they were returning from a night duty at Sowutuom at about 5:00 a.m.

She said police saw one of the men carrying a sack, popularly known as “Ghana must”, and when the police stopped to interrogate them, the two took to their heals leaving the sack.

DSP Tenge said the police chased the men but to no avail and when the bag was opened, it contained AK47 raffle with nine rounds of ammunition, a screw driver, a weapon bag, a jacket and a plier.

She said the police had begun investigations to arrest the men and find out if the they were involved in robbery operation, adding”We want to find out the source of the raffle and any linkages to it, and also arrest the suspects.”
