Police Imposter Arrested



The imposterA man who posed  as an official of the Ghana Police Service to conduct checks on the Spintex Road in Accra, has been arrested.

Ishmael Bashiru, 30, is believed to have connived with a dismissed police officer from Tamale (now at large) to engage in the act.

Briefing the press, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, said that on December 16,at about 8p.m., a police patrol team on duty on the Spintex Road saw the two suspects  who were in police uniform operating in the area.

He said when they were questioned about their presence there, they  could not give a reasonable answers.

DCOP Yohonu said the police became suspicious and arrested Bashiru, but his accomplice, identified as George Attipo, escaped.

He said some police accoutrements were retrieved from Bashiru.

DCOP Yohonu said the police had mounted a search for the arrest of his accomplice.

He said Bashiru would be put before court soon.

In another development, COP Yohonu has cautioned the public to be wary of  new trends by criminals in kidnapping children from social centres such as the churches, mosques and other children playgrounds.

He stated that for the past weeks, two children aged between nine and 10 years, have been kidnapped from churches at Kaneshie in Accra.

DCOP Yohonu said the kidnappers succeeded in kidnapping the children and demanded a ransom between GH¢2,500 and 3,000 to release them.

He said family members paid the ransom for the children, who were later dumped at Darkuman in Accra.

DCOP Yohonu urged  the public to be  wary of such criminal activities in the society. By Anita Nyarko
