Police hunt for Kumasi businessman’s killer

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has mounted a search for an unidentified hit-man, who shot and killed a businessman in his house at TUC, in Kumasi, at about 8 p.m on Friday.

Alhaji Salifu Abdulai Alidu, 66; who deals in haulage and glass cutting services, was shot in the head and the stomach while he alighted from his car to open the main gate to his house.

The assailant neither entered the house nor stole anything from the car, although there was an unspecified amount of money in both foreign and local currencies, and a pistol, in the car.

He has two wives, one of whom is a Police Chief Inspector.

“We do not have any evidence of contract killing or robbery at the moment; and we have intensified our investigations into the matter,” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yusif Tanko, Head of the Regional Police Public Affairs Unit told The Ghanaian Times when contacted.

According to ASP Tanko, the assailant accosted Alhaji Alidu, around 8 p.m. when he arrived home and alighted from his car to open his gate.

He said as he was opening the gate, the killer fired shots at him, adding that there were no indications of anything that had been taken from the car by the assailant.

According to him, some members of the deceased’s family who were inside the house, said they heard the gunshots, but thought they were fire-crackers.

ASP Tanko said a family member found the deceased in a pool of blood, and raised the alarm which brought the others out and together, they rushed him to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
