A total of 23 alleged sex workers were yesterday rounded up by the Cantonments Police in Accra, in a two-hour night swoop, across various areas in Accra.
The sex workers were apprehended near Togo and Italian Embassies, Cantonments, Danquah Circle, and Oxford Street, in Osu.
They were 12 Nigerians, four Ghanaians, two Togolese, two Liberians, a Beninoi  and a Cameroonian.
Briefing the media after the operation, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ASP) Winfred Frimpong, the Cantonment Divisional Police Commander expressed frustration at the operation of the suspected prostitutes.
He said the alleged prostitutes had persistently harassed residents of the areas they operated, and there was the need to flush them out.
ACP Frimpong stated that the suspects would be arraigned, and urged for stiffer punishments, to deter others from engaging in the unlawful act.
According to him, anytime the alleged prostitutions were brought before court, they were freed after meager fines were imposed on them, emboldening them to continue.
ACP Frimpong said the police were being demoralised by the lenient fines the court has imposed on the suspects.
