Police eye double over Hasmal Ladies

Jane Ayieyam scored a hat-trick to put Police Ladies in pole position to qualify for the semi finals of the ongoing Normalisation Committee (NC) special women’s competition when they played Hasaacas Ladies in the first leg quarter finals at the Teshie MATS Park on Monday.

The Black Queen’s striker opened the scoring as early as the 12th minute, planting the ball beyond goalkeeper Faustina Owusu Nyamekye from a goal mouth melee.

Skipper Perpetual Agyekum drew level for the visitors in the 34th minute but Ayieyam added two more goals in the 46th and 85th minutes of the game to take a 3-1 advantage into tomorrow’s second leg at the Gyandu Park.

Ahead of the return leg, Head Coach of Hasaacas Ladies, Yusif Basigi believes all is not lost and that his side has what it takes to qualify for the next round of the competition.

Speaking with the media after the game, he stated his girls would come fiercely to face the law officers in what they see as a win or bust encounter.

Police Coach Christopher Darkey was equally optimistic of recording a double over Hasaacas Ladies.

“I am happy we won 3-1 but our feet remains on the accelerator. We want to keep on going until we realise the ultimate.”

In other matches played over the weekend, Fabulous Ladies fell 1-0 at their Wesley Park home to Prisons Ladies through a Rita Okyere 58th minute strike.

Ampem Darkoa defeated Kumasi Sports Academy 2-0 at the Valley View Park in Sunyani with all the goals coming from Asantewaa Grace while Elmina Sea Lions drew goalless with Halifax ladies at the Ndoum Stadium in Cape Coast.

This afternoon at the Army Park in Sunyani, Prisons Ladies will take on Fabulous Ladies in the second leg; Ampem Darkoa will trek to the Prempeh College Park in Kumasi to play as guest of Kumasi Sports Academy while Halifax Ladies will be at the Community 8 No.2 Park to host Elmina Sea Lions.

Winners over the two legs will advance to the next stage of the competition.
