Two armed robbers, believed to be of Fulani extraction, who terrorised residents of Fielmuo and its environs in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region, have been arrested by the police.
Yaro Addo and Mumuni Diallo were said to be part of a gang of three, who engaged a police patrol team in a shoot-out at Fielmuo on Friday.
Briefing The Ghanaian Times, here, yesterday, the Regional Crime Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Hussein Awunaba, said at about 2am on Friday, a police patrol team signaled three men armed and riding an unregistered Haojin motorcycle in Fielmuo to stop.
He said they ignored the police and attempted to speed off, but the motorcycle crashed an object and they were thrown off the motorcycle.
Supt Awunaba said the armed robbers opened fire at the police, and they (police) returned fire at them.
He said the suspects fled into the bush, but the police pursued them and arrested them.
Sup Awunaba said empty AK47 riffle shells were retrieved from the suspects, who were sent to the District Police headquarters at Gwollu.
He said the police would parade the suspects today so that persons who might have fallen victim to their operations can identify them.
He appealed to the public to volunteer information to assist the police arrest the third suspect.
