PNC Treasurer cautions against ‘chopping’ funds

The National Treasurer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Akane Adams has charged the leadership of the party to ensure that monies meant for campaigning ahead of general elections are deposited with the right source.

That, he explained would ensure the party effectively mobilises enough resources to execute its campaign and further enhance accountability.

“This is in the right direction to overcome past challenges we might have been confronted with regarding the difficulties associated with disbursement of campaign funds, especially if the funds went into the wrong hands or in the wrong places.”

Mr. Adams made the assertion in a press statement yesterday.

The national treasurer heads the party’s finance committee made up of five members which has been tasked to put together a well structured budget for the entire 2016 campaign.

According to the statement the committee has already presented a budget which has been approved by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC).

This would be used to solicit for funds and logistics both external and internal towards the party’s campaign.

“This can fully be achieved through effective internal party collaboration, good external relation and the right application of the secured limited campaign resources and logistics by the right persons,” the statement noted.

The statement said the PNC can only galvanise more votes “through effective strategies and the right expenditures of campaign resources by the right people at the right time.”

“The PNC has already toured many parts of the country and has received an overwhelming reception from people from all walks of life- chiefs, students, farmers, traders”.

It added that the endorsement received by the electorates has “actually sparked the party’s campaign machinery and strategies ahead of the polls and as such, we are living no stone unturned”.

The party has strong convictions that our chances are brighter as we have emerged stronger, united and formidable after the party’s congress in December 2015 to elect our presidential candidate and other national officers alike.”

The statement said PNC therefore remain focused and positive towards the general election and was hopeful that the limited campaign resources and logistics would pass through the appropriate hands and be applied strictly based on the approved budget by the party’s finance committee.
