Please Fulfil Promise —Omanhene

The Omanhene of Sefwi Wiawso in the Western Region Okatakyie Kwasi Bumagama II has appealed to the government to honour its promise to establish a cocoa village and clinic  in the area.

He noted that the chiefs and people of Sefwi Wiawso have been anxiously awaiting the commencement of the projects, adding “We have always kept faith with the NDC Government, since the PNDC era.”

The Omanhene made the appeal when a delegation of District Chief Cocoa  Farmers and Queen Mothers of Western Region paid   him a courtesy call on Saturday, to welcome him as the new Omanhene of the area.

He observed that the Western Region, as the leading producer of  cocoa, the backbone of the economy could not be left out of the development agenda of the country.

The Omanhene advised the cocoa farmers to respect and abide by the laws on land acquisition to ensure peace in the area.

Nana Nicholas Cobbina, the Western Regional Chief Cocoa  Farmer, and  board member of  quality control,  COCOBOD commended Dr. Stephen Opuni, the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD for helping cocoa farmers to get free fertilizers for their farms, as well as Alhassan Bukari, the National Chief Farmer, for his assistance to cocoa farmers in the country.

He appealed to government to ensure the early completion of road projects in the area, especially the cocoa roads and bridges  which have come to a standstill, to boost production of cocoa.

He also urged the government to speed  the payment of bonuses to cocoa farmers throughe mobile banking.

The Omanhene of Sefwi Wiawso was installed on 20th March, 2014, following the demise of his predecessor, Nana Nkua Okudom in 2011.
