Ping pong: Tesano Spinners stretch league

League leaders, Tesano Spinners stretched the lead on the national table tennis league log after firing a 3-0 win over Madina Stars in a crunch game played at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium over the weekend.
The hotly contested game drew a lot of talking points as both sides sold out a thrilling ping-pong action with beautiful serves, smooth loops and smashes, drawing applause from the crowd.
The victory secured by the trio of Michael Darbah, Nigerian import Ahmed Bello and Saikum saw them move five clear points off second placed Smartline @ Emefs.
Bello saw off Selassie 11-5, 11-5, 8-11, and 11-4 in the first game while Darbah accounted for Ernest 11-8, 11-6 and 11-7 in the second game with both Saikum and Darbah teaming up in the doubles game to brush off the bluff of Ernest and David of Madina Stars 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 in the final game.
Tesano Spinners’ lead was further cemented with victories over both Team Coach Addo and Synergy TT Club 3-0 each in the second and third round games to boost their points.
Other first round games saw Immigration beating Ghana Navy 3-0, Eastern Loopers lost 1-3 to Fire Service, Otumfour Stars won 3-1 over Western TT Club, Ghana Army lost 1-3 to Smartline@Emefs and Madina Stars lost their third game 3-0 to the Ghana Police with Team Coach Addo also going down 3-1 to Ashiaman Power Club.
In round three matches, the reigning league champions, Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) defeated Kings Royal Academy 3-0, Fire Service won by the same margin over Western TT Club, Ghana Navy lost 1-3 to Ghana Revenue Authority, Smartline@Emefs beat Eastern Loopers 3-0, Otumfour Stars accounted for Synergy TT Club 3-0, Team Baboo made light work of Ashaiman Power Club, beating them 3-1, with Ghana Army thrashing Team Coach Addo 3-0.
The round two matches saw Immigration beat Fire Service 3-1, Ghana Navy accounted for Kings Royal 3-1, Eastern Loopers won 3-0 over Western TT Club, Smartline@Emefs 3-0 Otumfour Stars, Ghana Police won 3-1 against Team Baboo and Ghana Army winning 3-2 over Synergy TT Club with Madina Stars losing 1-3 to Ashaiman Power Club.
In the women’s category, Tesano Spinners lead the log with 21 points following a 3-0 thrashing of Ghana Police in the round one game for week six.
Team Coach Addo defeated Madina Stars 3-0 to keep the heat on the leaders, Ghana Army defeated Ghana navy 3-0 with Ghana Immigration and Smartline @Emef scoring 3-0 wins each over Western TT Club and Otumfour Stars.
